Second batch of rare painting and calligraphy
So rich is the Palace Museum's treasure-house of art that it is impossible to show it all at once. The collection's most valuable painting scroll, 'Along the River During the Qingming Festival', has just gone back into the vaults. But never mind, because a second batch of items is now on display as the museum continues to celebrate its 90th Anniversary.

“Shodō” (Japanese Calligraphy)
Shodō is a traditional Japanese form of calligraphy using brush and ink that, like the kanji it artistically recreates, has its roots in China. It shares similarities with Chinese calligraphy, but is characterized by the combination of characters with Japanese kana, which were developed in the ninth century. Shodō works are highly valued as art, but the practice also has its philosophical side, influenced by Zen Buddhism.
The “Shamail: Word And Image” exhibition will premiere in Tajikistan
The “Shamail: Word And Image” exhibition will open in Dushanbe on October 21st in the National Museum of Tajikistan. The exposition will feature some 50 printed shamails created in early 20th century from the collection of Mardjani Foundation for Support and Development of Research and Cultural Programs (Moscow).

The treasures of Cambridge University Library’s Chinese collections added to the Digital Library
The Cambridge Digital Library website http://cudl.lib.cam.ac.uk/collections/chinese) already hosts the works of Charles Darwin, Isaac Newton and Siegfried Sassoon, as well as unique collections on the Board of Longitude and the Royal Commonwealth Society. The oracle bones (ox shoulder blades and turtle shells) are one of the Library’s most important collections and are the earliest surviving examples of Chinese writing anywhere in the world. They record questions to which answers were sought by divination at the court of the royal house of Shang, which ruled central China between the 16th and 11th centuries BCE.
