Chef learns to write calligraphy with his knife and ingredients

A young chef from Chongqing has become an internet celebrity after learning how to write Chinese calligraphy with kitchen utensils and food instead of a traditional brush.

The 24-year-old chef, Tu Jianchuan, said he became interested in calligraphy and painting as a young boy after watching his father master both arts.

After graduating from school and becoming a culinary instructor, Tu got the idea of using his cooking tools to write calligraphy.

He started practicing the art more than a year ago and can now even use a clumsy-looking large knife to write the most intricate of all Chinese characters.

He also uses other utensils and different vegetables to create calligraphy. As he is very skilled with a blade, Tu can also carve delicate sculptures out of tofu and other soft foods.
