January 23rd, 2019 marks the 42nd anniversary of National Handwriting Day. Established in 1977 on the birthday of one of America's most celebrated scribes, John Hancock, National Handwriting Day was created to acknowledge the history and influence of penmanship.
Shortly before New Year’s Eve, an exhibition of Old New Year greetings cards opened at the Contemporary Museum of Calligraphy, featuring rare handmade cards which were composed and sent by Chinese leaders and famous politicians to their Soviet comrades from 1946 to 1953.

Her teacher was renowned artist Wang Xuezhong, one of those who learned their art from Xu Beihong, a famous Chinese painter and graphic artist.

On the last day of their Moscow stay, all delegates of the Sharp-pointed Nib Calligraphy Association visited MGIMO and held a fascinating workshop for the university’s future sinologists. Alexey Alexakhin, Doctor of Philology, Professor and Head of the MGIMO Department of Chinese, Vietnamese, Laotian and Thai Languages, accompanied the delegation.
