Sokolniki Exhibition and Convention Center and the Contemporary Museum of Calligraphy, both located in Moscow, Russia, have joined the China Friendly program and are now working to adapt to cater to Chinese tourists.
The Contemporary Museum of Calligraphy is the first museum in Russia devoted to the art of beautiful writing. Its collection includes unique samples of handwriting, including some world masterpieces created by renowned calligraphy masters. The museum exhibit features exquisite paragons of Slavic and European writing, subtle inscriptions of Jewish and Arab calligraphy schools, strict forms of traditional Japanese writing, examples of ancient Chinese calligraphy, all of them illustrating the history of calligraphy and reflecting new facets of visual art. The unique items include Russian and foreign books on calligraphy, rare handwritten publications produced in single editions, and writing implements of the past and present.
The museum will be of interest to visitors of various ages, including Asian tourists. The museum’s website is available in Chinese and has all the necessary information for Chinese visitors in their native language.
Sokolniki Exhibition and Convention Center is located close to the city center, near the highways and Sokolniki metro station. The complex has an area of over 27,300 square meters in 10 exhibition halls, all of which meet international standards. Besides, there are 17,000 square meters of additional open area for the installation of mobile halls and organizing outdoor events.
The program, which aims to adapt the services to Chinese tourists, was launched in 2014. More than 100 companies have been certified under China Friendly so far, including some big museums and similar institutions, hotel chains, transport companies, shopping centers, and foodservice operators. 28 new tourist attractions joined the program in 2018. Among them are the State Historical Museum of Russia, the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts, Novosibirsk's Tolmachevo airport, Kungur Ice Cave, which is a natural monument of Russia, and some other places.
