$3,000 Grant For Calligraphy
A $3,000 grant from the Cave Creek Unified Education Foundation recently purchased authentic Chinese calligraphy brushes, specialty paper and art materials for Sonoran Trails Middle School in Cave Creek.

Several groups of the National School of Calligraphy that works on the basis of the Contemporary Museum of Calligraphy have recently finished their courses. The final classes were held for five adult groups in the end of February.

Citizens of Nizhniy Novgorod got a unique opportunity to observe the first printed publication - the Acts and the Epistles of the Apostles (or simply the Apostle), completed in 1564. It was published by Ivan Fyodorov. In honour of the 450th anniversary of Russian printing, Regional Universal Scientific Library of Nizhny Novgorod has unveiled a new exhibition called the Art of Printed Books.

Seyfettin Mensimoğlu, an Azerbaijani calligraphy artist performs his works on wood instead of on paper which draws great attention. Seventy-nine year old artist first began calligraphy on wood at the age of 61. Since then, the successful artist has participated in many international exhibitions, including Topkapı Palace in İstanbul.

The Kazan Islamic Art Museum hosts the Mirrors of memory - Tughra and Shejere Exhibition on February 11th, within the framework of the Calligraphy as a Way to Realize the Eternal Truths art project launched in 2011. Woodcliff Lake temple's families share in the writing of the Torah
Miles Shore watched carefully as the sofer, or scribe, dipped the feather turkey quill into black ink. Then he grasped onto it with the help of the sofer, Gedaliah Druin, who advised him, “Don’t let go.” The two of them worked carefully to fill in the white space with the Hebrew letter “yud” with the ebony fluid. Finally, the deed was done: Miles Shore of Stone Ridge, age 8, had completed a letter in the Torah. “Yud is your letter forever,” said Shore’s father, Michael Shore, who held his grinning son in his lap.
Turkish calligrapher demonstrates at Taipei book fair
A renowned Turkish calligrapher will demonstrate his art at the 2014 Taipei International Book Exhibition (TIBE), which runs from February 5th-10th. The art of calligraphy in Turkey dates back more than 800 years. It is written mostly with flat-balled or round-nibbed pens, differing from Chinese calligraphy, which mainly employs a brush technique.

The Window to the Sky exhibition is to be opened in the National museum of Republic Bashkortostan on January 13th, where twenty five artworks executed by Ali Ganji for Al Ikhlas Mosque during his visit to Ufa will be showcased. Ali Ganji and Maryam Emomi are the honoured masters of the Association of Iranian Calligraphers and the Iranian Academy of Calligraphy.

The 17th Annual National Contest in Mongolian Traditional Calligraphy was held in Ulan Bator. The contest is organized by the Khumuun Bichig newspaper published by Montsame News Agency. Over a thousand people from the capital and nineteen aimaks of the country participated in the contest.
