A Japanese calligraphy master will hold a lesson in the Peter and Paul Fortress

A master class by a famous teacher of Japanese calligraphy, Isidzima Kaori, is to be held at the Peter and Paul Fortress in the small lecture hall (the Ioannovsky (John’s) ravelin, lecture hall, 2nd floor) on March 17th, 2014. The event will be held within the framework of From Pen to PC Exhibition with the support of the Consulate-General of Japan.

Calligraphy is a very popular pastime in Japan, but it is not just beautiful writing of hieroglyphs but an art of great significance for the Japanese and philosophy as well. Isidzima Kaori is an acknowledged master of calligraphy and a prize-winner of many Japanese calligraphy exhibitions. Kaori has more than 20 years of experience in this area of traditional Japanese art.

Isidzima Kaori took lessons of calligraphy from master Syuho Mizusima in her childhood and later she continued her studies at the Institute of Calligraphy (Ito, Japan). She subsequently worked in the Calligraphy Association of Japan (Tokyo, Japan) and taught calligraphy in the Czech Republic and in Russia. During the master class at the Peter and Paul Fortress Isidzima Kaori will talk about hieroglyphs’ meanings, will teach how to hold a brush and will share other secrets of «beautiful writing» and, of course, will teach how to draw hieroglyphs.

First 17 guests will be able to take part in the master class (the number is determined by the amount of ink sets). The others will be offered to listen to all the master’s explanations and watch her performance.

Moreover, one hour prior to the master class there will be an excursion on From Pen to PC Exhibition organized for everyone.

The master class starts at 4 pm; the admission is free of charge.
