Total Dictation in Rostov-on-Don will choose fine handwriter

A special nomination will be introduced for the first time ever to make sure the participants follow calligraphy and penmanship standards.

According to the city administration spokesperson, organizers of the Total Dictation in Rostov-on-Don will look for the finest handwriter over the course of the contest.

For the first time ever a special nomination will award those who complete the task following calligraphy and penmanship standards.

Also in a special retro-space any contest participant is welcome to write the dictation using nib and ink.

As some may recall writer and the Grand Book laureate Leonid Yuzefovich has drafted the text for the Total Dictation 2017. According to him, the text dubbed The City and the River is an essay about 3 cities, namely Perm, Ulan-Ude and Saint-Petersburg, which are connected with the writer’s life.

The Total Dictation is an annual educational event aimed to create awareness around literacy aspects and improve the culture of competent writing. Since its start in 2004 thousands of people around the world have participated in this voluntary project, which employed texts written in different years by Boris Strugatsky, Dmitry Bykov, Zakhar Prilepin, Dina Rubina, Alexey Ivanov and many others. This year the Dictation is scheduled for April 8 in 800 Russian and international locations.
