The New Year Speech of the Director of the Contemporary Museum of Calligraphy

Dear friends!

On behalf of the Contemporary Museum of Calligraphy’s team let me wish you a happy New Year!

Pretty soon we will step into 2017 with warm hopes and in anticipation of positive changes, while keeping the memories of the most vivid and meaningful events of the year gone by.

Autumn 2016 saw the permanent exhibition of the museum completely revamped to include the works that had only been showcased as a part of the International Exhibition of Calligraphy project.

This year the museum successfully hosted Calligraphy About Moscow exhibition as well as a whole spectrum of most interesting workshops by outstanding contemporary calligraphy artists such as Bas Vlam (Norway), Shoko Hirose and Sashida Takefusa (Japan), Artyom Lebedev (Russia), Andrey Nikonorov (Russia), Mikhail Danilov (Russia), Ekaterina Orfanova (Russia), Darina Buryulina (Russia) and many more.

Since 2010 the Contemporary Museum of Calligraphy hosts the National School of Calligraphy for everyone interested and all ages. In 2016 the new Lettering course has been launched. January 2017 will see pointed and broad pen workshops with the first classes in the new format scheduled for January 4-5.

Educational activity of the Contemporary Museum of Calligraphy goes beyond school boundaries as it holds regular tours and workshops where participants can try their hand in calligraphy practice.

The museum is also true to its philanthropy tradition, offering charity tours for disadvantaged groups.

I would like to emphasize that all calligraphy enthusiasts can expect a tremendous event in 2017 – the 6th International Exhibition of Calligraphy will be held between September 1 and 10 at the Festivalnaya Square in Sokolniki Park. Being the largest global calligraphy event it will gather leading artists from all over the world and feature workshops, film screenings, various presentations, talks and Q&As. For the first time ever the exhibition will cover contemporary and progressively popular movements such as lettering and calligraffiti.

The Contemporary Museum of Calligraphy’s team wishes you the best of health, wealth, happiness and joy in the year to come!
