The New Season at the Contemporary Museum of Calligraphy

This weekend (October 15-16) we invite all connoiseurs of the beautiful to the official opening of the Contemporary Museum of Calligraphy, resuming its work after the summer holidays. These days the museum will run from 10 am to 8 pm. The exposition will include calligraphy masterpieces from all over the world. Up to date, the museum comprises exhibitors from 43 countries. Among the famous masterpieces the museum visitors can admire the sacred artifact from Jerusalem – The World Famous Mezuzah, The Decalogue, the handwritten copy of the Constitution of the Russian Federation, a miniature exhibit “Words on a wing of a fly”, the Sacred Mantra, a sketch of an illustrated handwritten copy of the National Anthem of the Russian Federation. Among the brand-new museum masterpieces is a unique handwritten copy of the Holy Koran presented to Aleksei Shaburov, the Museum’s director, by Albir Krganov, Moscow Mufti, in September 2011.

Some workshops are going to rock the weekend. On Saturday, Nina Kozubova. a participant of the International Exhibition of Calligraphy, gives a workshop entitled “Art calligraphy for children” which is open to the youngest visitors to the museum with their parents. The workshop starts at 7 pm. And on Sunday Yevgeny Drobyazin, calligraphy maestro also gives a workshop. It was he who created the handwritten copy of the National Anthem of the Russian Federation, the original of which Silvio Berlusconi, the Italian Prime Minister, handed over to Dmitry Medvedev, the Russian President, at the G8 summit. The workshop starts at 2 pm. Each workshop lasts for about an hour and a half. Admission fee — 150 RUR; for children, students, pensioners, museum staff and school teachers —100 RUR. For children under 7 the admission is free.
