Another waypoint for the expedition is the Museum of Cheese from Kostroma. An antique late 18th century merchant's mansion (Reschikov's House) on Tchaikovsky Street features an extensive exhibit of the global cheese making history. The museum was opened by Mikhail Popov, a reserved Major, restaurant keeper and hotelier. The collection includes the old weight of the Blandev brothers, cheese moulds, churns and other antique devices for cheese making, dating back to the late 19th – early 20th centuries. The museum uncovers various cheese related tales and national traditions, cheese records and the most unusual sorts, offering an interactive tour too, but most importantly, the opportunity to taste the real cheeses made in Kostroma.
