Russian calligraphy fans supported in Primorye

On May 24, winners of the II Yat Calligraphy Contest were awarded at the Primorye stage of Mariinsky Theatre. A professional jury had selected the best works in the four categories: “Word-Image”, “A favourite poem or quotation”, “Initial in a handwritten text”, and “Script composition, ex-libris”, submitted by participants of all ages from 9 to 86 years old.

“There are very few such contests in Russia, and they mainly take place within one educational institution in the central region. It’s only the second edition of our contest but it’s is open and wide-scale.”

“This year over 70 works from 7 municipalities were submitted, including works by Vietnamese students. Next year we plan to develop the contest even more and organize a calligraphy school where future contest participants will be trained,” says Ilya Fyodorov, deputy head of the Guidance Department of the Primorye Territorial Centre of Popular Culture and member of the contest organizing committee.

The Far Eastern branch of the Russkiy Mir Foundation traditionally supports the contest and provides prizes for the winners.

According to the jury, the quality of submitted works has grown significantly since the first edition of the contest. After the awarding ceremony, an error analysis session was held for the participants.

There’s an exhibition of contest works held until July, 5th in the Primorye Territorial Centre of Popular Culture.
