As the expedition progresses to unlock new museums on its route, another unique location is the Museum of Bread in Kostroma. Located in an antique trade shop that used to sell flour and grain since the end of the 18th century, the museum, launched in April 2018, has been operational for over a year now. Its founders are the owners of an eco-bakery “Zerna” Tatyana Dudina and Alexander Dudin. “Zerna” has been making sourdough bread in Kostroma for four years.
According to the good Russian tradition, the guests were welcomed with bread and salt, and found out how the grain was and still is making its tough way to turn into a round or rectangular loaf. The process of the bread grain becoming a hot fresh loaf with a crispy crust was demonstrated: the museum operates genuine burrstones to make flour, and all sorts of antique implements for bread making.
