The Volgograd Museum of Weights and Measures is closing. It is the only such museum in Russia, but now it has to find a new venue. In the meantime, the employees are taking down displays and packing exhibits with tears in their eyes.
Few people know about the Museum of Weights and Measures in Volgograd. It is not as well-known as other museums in the city, but over the years, it has earned an excellent reputation. The museum is located in the Dzerzhinsky district on the territory of the weighing equipment plant. It’s a rather good place – although on the road to the airport, it is only a 15-20 minutes drive from the city center, and the building is easily visible from the road.
The Museum’s history and unique exhibits
The collection was started back in the early 90s, almost at the same time as the plant opened. That’s when the first antique scales appeared in its walls. Some of them were brought by employees, others were purchased. Some curious items were handed down from the collection of the Etalon factory, which closed in the early 90s.
