Happy birthday to Li Hui, Chinese diplomat, public figure, and honorary foreign member of the Russian Academy of Arts

Li Hui, Chinese diplomat and public figure, honorary foreign member of the Russian Academy of Arts, celebrates his birthday on 1 February 2024.

A graduate of Peking University, Li Hui began his career in 1975 in the system of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China. His more than 45-year career has been closely linked to Russia. For many years he worked in the Department of the Soviet Union and Eastern Europe of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China, the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in the USSR and the Russian Federation, the Department of Eastern Europe, and Central Asia of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China, among other senior positions. From 2003 to 2008 he was Assistant and from 2008 to 2009 Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China. In 2009, he becamethe Chinese Ambassador to Russian Federation, a post he held for 10 years, maintaining, and developing cultural ties between our countries. Since 2019, he has been Special Representative of the Government of the People's Republic of China for Eurasian Affairs.

In 2019, he was awarded by the President of Russia V.V. Putin V.V Order of Friendship for services in strengthening friendship and cooperation between peoples, fruitful activities to bring together and mutually enrich the cultures of our countries. In 2019, to mark the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Russia and China, Mr Li Hui planted a Friendship Tree in Moscow's Sokolniki Park. Mr Li Hui has been to the World Calligraphy Museum several times and actively supports the Museum's exhibition projects.
