Expedition for private museums of Russia starts on May 14

The expedition route will run across several Russian regions, where the team of 6 driving two customized Toyota Land Cruisers will be searching for the most interesting and even mysterious museums in the Russian back country, with some of them located in truly remote places. The majority of the path is expected to be off-road, and this is why the vehicles are fully equipped with extra batteries, compressors, spiked tires and all sorts of blocking mechanisms.

There is a popular Russian catch phrase, saying that Russia has two problems: poor roads and a plethora of pinheads. Director of the Association of Private Museums of Russia, Alexey Shaburov, who is the mastermind and sponsor of the expedition, does not hesitate to disprove it, as the key motto of the expedition says “There are no roads in Russia at all, but there are lots of unique and talented people”. The trip specifically aims to find the genuine talents who created museums with their own hands to display the most incredible exhibits. The expedition team will have to overcome some extreme terrains to visit many of those. As it travels, the team will attend a few unique museums, including the Museum of Motorcycles in Kovrov, Manufacturer Dumnov’s House in Kirzhach, Museum of Cheese and Museum of Romani Culture and Lifestyle in Kostroma, Museum of Radio in Pereslavl-Zalessky, Museum of Soviet Car Industry in Ivanovo, Museum of Enamelling Art “Emalis” and Vadim Orlov Museum in Yaroslavl, as well as numerous museums in Yaroslavl region – Museum of Money in Vaskovo village, the printing-house museum from Vyatskoe village, the museum association of Tolbukhino, and much more.

A team of professional cameramen will film the expedition to use this unique footage in “The Private Museums of Russia. The Talents of Russia” movie, which will tell about the dedicated and committed owners of private museums, who create the most exciting facilities and do their business, however challenging it might be. The movie will be premiered on the first day of the exhibition with the same name, which is scheduled for September 7-8, 2019, in exhibit hall 4.1 of Sokolniki Exhibition and Convention Centre.
