Exhibition of Great Russian and Chinese calligraphy in State Duma

Between May 28 and 31, 2019, the Federal Assembly State Duma of the Russian Federation will host the exhibition of the Great Russian and Chinese Calligraphy to celebrate a remarkable date – the 70th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relationships between Russia and China.

The event is organized by the Contemporary Museum of Calligraphy, the Education and Science Committee of the State Duma, and the National Union of Calligraphers of Russia.

Official exhibition opening ceremony is on May 28 at 4:00 PM.

The exhibition aims to demonstrate the intensity and charm of Russian and Chinese calligraphy, and to unlock the unique features of national writing. In total the exhibit will put on display 20 artworks by Russian and Chinese calligraphers, leading calligraphy experts and artists of contemporary China and Russia. The key exhibits feature the Handwritten Constitution of the Russian Federation, the fundamental law written by an entire group of calligraphers and publishers headed by Petr Chobitko, Chairman of the National Union of Calligraphers Presidium; calligraphy from the Russian North – The Golden Cities of Russia set by Yuri Arutsev; calligraphy Greetings To a Teacher by renowned Russian calligrapher Yuri Koverdyaev. Chinese art will be represented in various styles and provinces, including The Extract from Lao Tzu's “Tao Te Ching” by Zhao Hueli (Heilongjiang province); Sincerity is a Hero's True Face by Zhang Huaqing, Chairman of the Chinese Calligraphy Association of Beijing “Sharp-pointed Nibs”; A Goblet of Wine Floats Down the Bend by Yang Jie (Henan province), and many more.

The contents of the exhibition carry several important cultural messages uniting Russian and Chinese art at once – wisdom, patience, respect towards your own history and culture. The unique calligraphy artworks on display provide an opportunity to think about the importance of preserving the traditional writing and calligraphy not only as a subject of art but as an important tool that helps every new generation continue to cherish its alphabet and strive to personal development. The exhibition is being orchestrated by the Contemporary Museum of Calligraphy, private Russian museum that for many years now has been working in the calligraphy art domain in cooperation with the Education and Science Committee of the State Duma.

So there is every indication that we can expect an exciting and extremely insightful exhibition that will slightly open the unique culture of Russia and China for us.
