Mr. Yuan Pu was born on September 1, 1946, in Zhenjiang City, Jiangsu province, China. He graduated in 1970 from the Central China Institute of Technology, majoring in Engineering. In the same year he entered the Chinese Character 605 Factory in Hubei province, engaged in the designing, developing and manufacturing of Chinese font styles and typefaces. The Chinese printing styles in thin bold-face and Song designed and made by Chinese Character 605 Factory are widely used in Chinese typesetting and as a base of the Chinese computer system. In 1977, Yuan Pu supervised the development and production of the Chinese semi-automatic phototypesetter. In 1991, he moved to Beijing Institute of Graphic Communications. As an associate professor, he developed Printing and Publishing Department, and set up the course of “University Calligraphy”.
Mr. Yuan Pu published many books e.g. Chinese Calligraphy calendar, 2008 and 2009; Chinese Calligraphy Popular Tutorial, 2001; Talk about standardization, 1985; Technology and Application of PS plate, 1989; Configuration and Maintenance of Offset Press, 1982;
Calligraphy is a kind of music not for the ears, but for the eyes.
