Calligraphy: between the past and future

The 2nd International Exhibition of Calligraphy was launched in the Contemporary Museum of Calligraphy, which is located in Sokolniki Park, under the auspices of the Commission of the Russian Federation for UNESCO with support of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation. Visitors will see masterpieces of calligraphy from over thirty countries.

Within the framework of the exhibition a World Famous Mezuzah, a recent acquisition of the Contemporary Museum of Calligraphy, the only chef d’oeuvre of sacred Hebrew calligraphy listed into the Guinness World Records, executed on parchment by Avraham Borshevsky, the famous calligrapher of Jerusalem, will strike awe into the spectators. Among the exhibits there are also the draft of the illustrated handwritten copy of the National Anthem of the Russian Federation (a gift to the President of the RF Dmitry Medvedev from the Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi), the Decalogue (the Ten Commandments), the Golden Quran, George Beckman’s sculptures, the one and only handwritten copy of the Constitution of the Russian Federation, the Holy Mantra, Calligraphy on a Wing of a Fly, a unique exhibit from Asia, and other items representing cultures of different nations, states and religions. A vast business programme and several master-classes are also planning to be held for the visitors.
