Workshop on Japanese calligraphy to be held in Krasnoyarsk

A workshop on Japanese calligraphy will be held in Krasnoyarsk for the first time during the 5th Krasnoyarsk International Festival of the Asia-Pacific Countries.

At the workshop which will take place on June 23 at the regional research library, calligraphy masters from Japan Sashida Takefusa and Hirose Shoko will help attendees try their hand at the ancient art.

The renowned shodo calligraphy master, metal sculptor and teacher at a school for hearing impaired children in the Japanese city of Ichicawa, Sashida Takefusa is famous for his expressive manner of painting. He creates his hieroglyphs with thick, ragged strokes. His partner Hirose Shoko, artist, calligrapher, member of the Ichikawa Art Lovers Society, on the contrary, works with thin soft lines. Works of both masters are on exhibit in Tokyo, Moscow, and Saint Petersburg.

Apart from calligraphy, there will be a workshop on ikebana held by Ishimaru Sayuri.

Meanwhile, an exhibition of calligraphy works by Sashida Takefusa and Hirose Shoko opened on June 8 in the Siberian Federal University and will last till June 30.
