Vladimir Popov exhibition opened in Kazan

The unusual format of the Calligraphy World exhibition of the famous artist matches its non-obvious location: the office of a Tatar newspaper Shahri Kazan.

The Gabdulla Tukai Award winner, Honoured Artist of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Tatarstan, National Artist of Tatarstan, Honoured Arts Worker of the RT and a member of the Artists' Union of Russia — this is the list of the awards granted to Vladimir Popov. It transpires that the artist that has devoted all his life to easel painting has also been doing calligraphy painting for as long as twenty-five years. However, all his works are linked by one and the same line, same theme — nonviolence in this world, that is, peacemaking. The famous artist, that not long ago celebrated his 90th birthday, confessed that in all his life he had had only one apprentice, or more specifically, a female one. She was Gulnaz Ismagilova, a student of ERIYES State University of Turkey, and her works are also exhibited in the newspaper office. The young artist comments on the pieces: «Calligraphy has its own secret meaning. When an average man visits such exhibitions he sees only symbols and figures. But one should look a bit closer and they will be able to see what is hidden inside — the sincere beauty and purity of this world».
