A unique exhibition of Arabic calligraphy dubbed Calligraphy – The Poetry of Lines is held in Almaty, featuring pieces by calligraphy artist Asylbek Urynbasarov from Kazakhstan.
He has founded the first in Almaty studio school of Arabic calligraphy, followed with attempts to revive the Kazakh style called “siyaget”.
This style was utilized in the Timurid dynasty era. “Calligraphy reached our region from Iran through Samarkand and Bukhara in the 15th century, originally having its own style – Farsi Talik or Shekiste, which later transformed under the local environment”, says Asylbek. Apart from “siyaget” he possesses five academic styles of calligraphy out of six, applying them in his art.
The exhibition will run until February 28.
