The Mystery of World Calligraphy at the opening of Contemporary Museum of Calligraphy

Some people say that when you dream of something this something is half-real, so that you can tolerate its absence; however, when the object of your desire slips right through your arms, further expectation is tough.

The Contemporary Museum of Calligraphy was open on August 1st. Newspapers wrote, “an event that all the lovers of the art of beautiful handwriting had long dreamt of finally happened”. Over a month ago, it opened its halls for visitors inviting to enter and look at the calligraphic chefs d’oeuvre. Incomplete exhibition that featured around one-third of the total works available at the museum’s holdings left an indelible impression on the spectators, transforming a museum visit into a memorable event. In the beginning of September, the museum was closed due to the preparations for the International Exhibition of Calligraphy in St Petersburg.

At last, on December 9th, the event long awaited by an overwhelming majority of typesetters and designers from all over Russia will unfold.

An official opening ceremony of the main exposition of the Contemporary Museum of Calligraphy will take place in Sokolniki Park, Moscow. From then on many chefs d’oeuvres will always be available for the fans of the art of beautiful handwriting.

Of course, some will say that the official websites of the International Exhibition of Calligraphy and of the Contemporary Museum of Calligraphy have already spoiled some of the fun by comprehensive photo galleries. However, browsing through photos on the web can hardly be compared with the joy of examining the work itself, look at it through the magnifying glass; noticing every ink droplet, whose gaily advance and ruthless splashing were interrupted when the pen touched the paper fulfilling its main goal – to express thoughts, feelings, and ideas of an artist.

The Grand Opening of the museum will be remembered not only due to the great joy of Moscow acquiring one more pearl in its casket of cultural sites, but also due to the unique opportunity of solving of the Mystery of the World Calligraphy. Jewish, Arab, European, American, Slavic calligraphy ... You are going to be thrilled by outstanding combinations of styles and trends, play on a various specifics of works, calligraphic works by authors of diametrically opposite mindset… However, their creativity is equally charming and hypnotizing.
