The courtyard of the Ulyanovsk house was decorated with a calligraphic text about the unconditional surrender of Germany

In Ulyanovsk, on the sidewalk in the courtyard of house No. 17 on Kamyshinskaya street, the calligraphy appeared in the style of the Russian ligature script, containing the order of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief dated May 8, 1945 on unconditional surrender of Germany. Soviet citizens learned about the signing of the surrender from the Sovinformburo message on May 9, 1945 at 2 hours 10 minutes a.m. Moscow time. Announcer Yuri Levitan read out the Act on the military surrender of Nazi Germany and the Decree of the Supreme Council Presidium of the USSR declaring May 9 the Victory Day.

"Attention! Moscow speaking! Attention! Moscow speaking! On May 8, 1945, representatives of the German command in Berlin signed the Act of Unconditional Surrender of the German Armed Forces. The Great Patriotic War, which was waged by the Soviet people against the fascist invaders, has been victoriously ended! Germany is completely defeated! ” was said at the beginning of this message.

The project was implemented in dedication to the Victory Day with the support of the Tavrida-Art art cluster and the Ulyanovsk Region government. The scale of calligraphy was 500 square meters, it took 40 liters of paint and 20 hours of work time. The work was done by the famous Ulyanovsk calligrapher Yuri Volfovich. May we remind you, that this young man became the author of a huge calligraphic inscription on Cathedral Square, created in 2018.
