The Contemporary Museum of Calligraphy — a trademark of the newly opened Sokolniki Museum Quarter

September 24, 2010. Sokolniki Museum-Educational complex has opened Russia's first Museum Quarter. On this occasion, a presentation and press conference with officials and show business stars was organized.

Leonid Govorov (President of the Moscow Chamber of Commerce), Aleksandr Kasyanov (Head of the Sokolniki district authority), Aleksandr Demakov (Director of Sokolniki Park), as well as legendary artists Vladimir Presnyakov, Honored Artist of Russia and Pyotr Podgorodetsky, Honored Artist of Russia congratulated EcoCenter with such a unique event.

All participants expressed their gratitude to the Museum-Educational Complex administration and wished them further success in the development of exhibition culture. Vladimir Presnyakov’s speech about his childhood in Sokolniki pulled at the audience’s heart-strings He pointed out that unlike all other parks and exhibition centers of Moscow Sokolniki is perceived as something familiar and domestic. "You always feel comfortable in Sokolniki," said the musician.

Andrei Lapshin, CEO, Sokolniki Museum-Educational Complex told the guests and media that millions have been invested in the infrastructure of the park and convention center in recent years. Becoming the favorite vacation place for many, the center of leisure and business, Sokolniki Park regularly hosts major exhibitions, concert programs, city events.

The idea of Museum Quarter was endorsed not only by the district authority and prefecture but also by residents of the district. Currently two museums are operating in Sokolniki Museum-Educational Complex, namely the Contemporary of Museum of Calligraphy and the Museum of World History of Packing. The latter appeared in Sokolniki just a few days ago; its exposition consists now of only several hundred items, but in the coming months will be actively extending.

Administration of Sokolniki Museum-Educational Complex has in plans to open a number of other thematic museums, one of which will be the Museum of History of Sokolniki. After the official presentation was over Yuri Koverdyayev, a famous Moscow calligrapher, participant in the International Exhibition of Calligraphy held a master class for the guests of the event. A little later, journalists and government officials went on a tour around the Contemporary Museum of Calligraphy. The museum staff showed visitors a selection of masterpieces that were presented at the III International Exhibition of Calligraphy in the Veliky Novgorod Kremlin only a couple of weeks ago.

All guests were impressed and journalists noted that the Contemporary Museum of Calligraphy was the main ornament of the Museum Quarter. They promised to come again, but without cameras, just to enjoy museum exhibits.
