On May 25th the Kurchatov Palace of Culture saw a new project presented by the Parent-Teachers' Association of Volgodonsk. The project is aimed at calligraphy classes and Russian language lessons for children of the city. As a matter of fact, this new project kicked off on Philologists Day. Dozens of families with children gathered together on this day on the spacious premises of the Masterica Fancy-work club. The audience was entertained by the performances of the project’s authors, amateur artists, as well as adult and children's church choirs.
According to the organizers from the Parent-Teachers' Association, the idea to introduce calligraphy and Russian based on Zaycev methodology to Volgodonsk has been in the works for a long time. To implement it they had to prepare pedagogues first. That is why there were specialized seminars organized led by Russian experts in calligraphy from Saint Petersburg that were invited to teach the wisdom of teaching written by hand «real writing». Finally, the time was right to announce that the volunteers are ready to teach kids this curious art.
Phillip, 9 years old, who is carefully writing odd Old Slavonic letters with flourishes on a special cross-section paper, admits: this is the first time ever he has tried calligraphy and it is very interesting.
Besides the formation of beautiful handwriting, calligraphy will teach children to control themselves, as this art requires patience, assiduity and neatness, — Anna Ilyicheva, chlidren’s pedagogue, head of the Kapitoshka Childrens’ Club shares. — Under the influence of these kinds of activities the child’s character changes; hyperactive children become much quieter. Moreover, it is easier for kids to «draw» words instead of writing them as at school. It is notable that calligraphy has a good effect on adults as well. For instance, elderly people have fewerAlzheimer's disease symptoms.
Watching her son awkwardly but conscientiously trying to write with a pen the odd letters, his mother Elena is sure that such classes will bring a lot of benefits to her little fidget.
The child understands if he writes it roughly he is most likely to get dirty or make a blot. It teaches responsibility. Currently he is learning the alphabet in kindergarten, but here the letters of Russian ornamental script are not like the modern ones. So, this way of reading and writing repetition makes the child rounder.
While adults were talking, their children threw off the iPads and phones and lined up to try their skills in calligraphy. Judging by this level of curiosity, the opening went successfully enough.
