The calligraphy exhibition "Image and letter - 2016" will take place at The National Museum of the Altai Republic

The calligraphy exhibition «Image and letter» organized by The Centre of the Art of Calligraphy "From Az to Izhitsa" and which is held annually in Saint-Petersburg will take place at The National Museum named after A.V. Anokhin (Altai Republic).

The exhibition will showcase about 40 works by The Centre's teachers – calligraphers and graphic artists, including Peter Chobitko – the head of the Saint-Petersburg Centre and School of the Art of Calligraphy «From Az to Izhitsa», member of the Union of Artists of Russia and the president of The National Union of Calligraphers; such masters as Sabina Aliyarova, Ksenia Valdman, Christina Barikova, Ekaterina Volkova, Olga Varlamova, Ivan Velansky, Maria Skopina (Ivanova), Vera Chesnokova, Anna Yashchenko. These artists find ways to interpret the Russian traditions of the art of beautiful writing in contemporary styled compositions.

The major aim of the exhibition is to draw the attention of the audience not only to the artistic and esthetic aspect of writing but also to its cultural meaning, to the role that it has played in keeping our national culture alive and in building a healthy society and state. The curators also hope to arouse schoolchildren's and student's interest in the art of writing.

The opening ceremony will be held on 19 August at 15:00.
