On November, 28th the final stage of the 10th Primorsky Regional Calligraphy Contest was held at the Confucius Institute at the Far Eastern Federal University.
According to the information supplied by FEFU Confucius Institute codirector Wei Chun Ze, the contest includes two stages: «Pen calligraphy» and «Brush calligraphy». This year 1019 junior and high school students participated in the contest, and 260 of them made it to the finals. On completion of the final stage the jury will name the winners and nominees and will award them with valuable prizes.
Rector of FEFU Confucius Institute Concordia Kurilova says: «Hieroglyphics is a very important part of studying the Chinese language. It is the basics of learning the language and the culture through the written characters. So, taking into consideration this fact and the general interest to the Chinese script, we decided to hold calligraphy contests.»
«We started inviting teachers who could teach Chinese calligraphy. This year we have Chow Sung, who holds lectures and practical classes at a very professional level», added Ms. Kurilova.
The rector also said that the main goal of the Confucius Institute is to arouse interest and to involve the children into the studying process, and to discover talented youth and provide support to them.
A total of 25 educational institutions from various regions of Primorsky Krai participate in the contest, including students from Vladivostok, Nakhodka, Ussuriysk and other places.
