Students Highlight Social Issues

The Rawalpindi Arts Council (RAC), in collaboration with the National University of Modern Languages (NUML), organized a group show of artworks titled «The Role of Artist in Society» here on Wednesday.

As many as 21 students from different universities, including Fatima Jinnah Women University, International Islamic University, National College of Arts and NUML, participated in the exhibition.

Renowned artist Zarar Hyder Babari along with RAC Resident Director Waqar Ahmed inaugurated the exhibition. More than 80 artworks, comprising calligraphy, photography, landscape, drawing, miniature art, and collage work, were put on display. The medium of work was oil, water paint, and pencil. The aim of the event was to highlight social issues prevailing in society. The artists had also pointed out current issues faced by our society. The culture of different regions was also depicted besides social issues.

The feature of the exhibition was the participation of two physically challenged female artists, Tehmina and Ammara, whose artworks attracted the attention of viewers.

After the opening ceremony, Zarar Hyder Babari lauded the organizers. He said that maturity would come in the artworks of young artists with the passage of time, but still they have managed to depict the theme so well in their artworks.

RAC Resident Director Waqar Ahmed said that the Rawalpindi Arts Council has fulfilled its aim by providing a platform to young talent of the region. He said that the effort of each student is highly commendable. The exhibition will continue at the Rawalpindi Arts Council till May 26.
