Students from Vladimir learned about Japanese culture

Students of Vladimir State University learned the art of Japanese calligraphy and tasted authentic Japanese tea. The national traditions were demonstrated by the students from the Land of the Rising Sun who came to Vladimir for language practice.

The Japanese students made a presentation of their country for their fellow Russian students. Electronic devices and printing haven’t completely substituted Japanese calligraphy, which is an art that is one and a half thousand years old. The skill of painting hieroglyphs on special thin paper is taught in all Japanese schools. Each symbol has its own specific meaning. Professor of Hakko Gakuen University, Terada Yositaka, depicted two symbols: ‘joy’ and ‘a tear’.

The number of hieroglyphs amounts to between five to ten thousand. Despite this, Japanese students have a hard time learning Russian. The Russian language is very popular in Japan. The difficulty for the foreign students is the conjugation and declension. For twenty years in a row, Japanese students have been coming to Vladimir to practice Russian, learn our traditions and taste the national cuisine.

The study placement only lasted three weeks. Soon the students will return to Sapporo.
