Staff Members of the Contemporary Museum of Calligraphy Go on a Business Trip to China

On August 16-26, representatives of the Contemporary Museum of Calligraphy and the Sokolniki Exhibition and Convention Center undertook a business trip to China, during which they met with the country’s most renowned calligraphy artists, heads of the major calligraphy associations, and representatives of both academic and research communities.

October 16, 2018 saw the first meeting of the museum team with the representatives of the Chinese Association of Art and Culture Figures — the central state Chinese Calligraphers' Association.

The meeting took place in Beijing and was attended by the some of representatives of the Association: Mr Chen Hongwu, vice chairman and party organization secretary; You Zhanliang, deputy head of the secretariat, and Wu You, a staff member of the department of foreign affairs. The Museum was represented by Alexey Shaburov, Director of the Museum, Alexander Medvedev, an assistant to Mr Shaburov, and Alexey Kharyutkin, Deputy Director General of the Sokolniki Exhibition and Convention Center.

During the meeting, Mr Shaburov introduced the Museum and gave a detailed account of the upcoming exhibition, which is scheduled for 2019: The Great Chinese Calligraphy and Painting: One Belt – One Road. The exhibition marks the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Russia (former USSR).

Mr Shaburov invited the Chinese Calligraphers' Association to participate in the exhibition and become a partner of the project. The leaders of the Associations expressed a keen interest in the project and thanked the Museum for the honor to become a partner and a participant of the project. The parties committed themselves to beginning cooperation and expressed their readiness to agree on the terms and conditions of this cooperation.
