Sergey Savelyev's Calligraphy and Brain lecture caused a sensation

The International Exhibition of Calligraphy in Sokolniki has just seen the end of a lecture read by Professor Sergey Savelyev, brain morphology and evolution expert with over 30 years of experience, who spoke about the impact of calligraphy on brain cortex development. In his speech Sergey touched upon key aspects of human brain functions and development when doing calligraphy, and went into detail describing the meaning of writing and its graphic representation for the brain. Professor noted too that calligraphy is not only about aesthetics but also has a rewarding impact on development of certain brain regions – writing process activates unique nervous connections, while children develop their fine motor skills most efficiently, which is value creating for their skills.
