Saudi Calligraphy Workshops Are A Success

The popular Islamic art form of calligraphy has become an instant hit amongst the public who were taught at the Aramco Summer Festival in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

Ibrahim Ali Al-Arrafy and Saud Khan, famous Saudi calligraphy artists conducted the workshops and were surprised to see the amount of people taking interest. Al-Arrafy said, “Every day we receive more than 100 students. The tables are always full. We are teaching them the seven different types of Arabic calligraphy writings.”

Islamic calligraphy took mystical inspiration from the divine origin of Arabic writing, especially that of the Quran. Without a doubt, Islamic calligraphy is a beautiful ancient art form, and Al-Arrafy wants the students to know this.

“We would like to revert the Muslim youth toward their heritage, their art, a way to show Islamic art and culture. This came from the Quran and it has been here for more than 1,400 years… We want the world to know about it and at the same time we want our new generation not to forget their heritage.”

The students got instructional videos to help throughout the process, and at the end of the program, every student got a book as a gift for their efforts.
