"Rain Of Love": Calligraphic Painting Exhibition by Abol Atighechi at Seyhoun Art Gallery

Opening Friday May 4, 2012, 4:00 to 8:00 pm at Tehran's Seyhoun Art Galley.

The exhibition will remain open until May 15th, everyday from 11 am to 7 pm. The gallery is closed on Mondays.

After years of living in France and participating in several international painting exhibitions, Abolghasem Atighechi, also called Abol, came back to Iran due to his interest in creating calligraphic paintings.

Taking into account all the experience he had in painting while he was in France, he created a new and modern style (Nouvelle Figuration) in traditional and contemporary calligraphic painting in Iran.

Adding tiny forms into huge Nastaligh* letters he brought a new innovative method into calligraphic painting. He has been inspired by Nastaligh Calligraphy in his works and enriches them with bright live colors.

In his Quran paintings, he uses mild pastille colors to bring more spirituality to his works; and by taking advantage of fluid delicate and circular lines, he aims to make a link with his audience in such a way that all the letters in his paintings have visual delicacy and grace in comparison to traditional calligraphic paintings.

When he uses the holy Quran verses in his works, he chooses Sols* letter and combines them with Naskh*; then he decorates with gold leaf.

It is also noteworthy that he does not stick to calligraphy rules and regulations due to the large one-piece dimension of his works (2x4 m), and this made him have his own unique painting style.

*Nastaligh, Sols, and Naskh are three different styles of calligraphy.
