Presentation of a New Project ‘Calligraphy: the Art of Excellence’

Sokolniki MEC is happy to launch a new social project dedicated to the art of calligraphy. The purpose of the project is to turn the audience to art, to restore the culture of writing, to provide the opportunities for studying Slavic script, to introduce artists, students and creative people to the art of calligraphy, and to make a presentation of modern international calligraphic trends.

Calligraphy (from Greek kallos «beauty» + graphe «writing») is the art of fine and neat handwriting. The story of calligraphy is closely connected with the history of cursive script and writing utensils invention. Before book printing was invented, calligraphy was the chief method of text graphic design.

Agenda:

• Presentation of the project hosted by Alexey Shaburov, Sokolniki MEC President;
• Calligraphy: the Flower of the Human Soul, a documentary film;
• An international calligraphic master-class;
• Stand-up party.

The presentation will be attended by prominent politicians and artists, world masters of calligraphy and chancellors of some Moscow universities. We invite mass media representatives to participate in the event.
