Passionate calligrapher makes 10 feet long ink brush to perform street art

A passionate Chinese calligrapher has spent a month making a gigantic writing brush and hopes to set a new world record with it.

Cheng Yufei, from Luoyang city in China's Hunan Province, handcrafted the 10-foot-long brush out of PVC and strips of cloth, reports the People's Daily Online.

Mr Cheng was pictured writing with his impressive tool yesterday on the streets in his hometown. He wrote the Chinese character 'Fu' on the concrete, which means 'blessing.' He said he plans to apply for the 'largest writing brush' from Guinness World Records.

Mr Cheng also plans to perform his writing with the brush on the upcoming Chinese New Year.

On February 8, the New Year's Day, Mr Cheng will join 99 calligraphy fans for a mass painting performance, then give his brush away as a gift.

The brush itself is red and has a mop-like head. Cheng put sand in the hollow part of it to make it heavier.

There is no known record of the 'largest writing brush' on Guinness World Records. However, there is a record for the 'largest paint brush', which stands at 28 feet in length and 4.4 feet in diameter. It's held by an Indian artist called Sujit Das who built the brush in Nagaon, India. Mr Das used it to paint portraits of famous Indian people, such as Mahatma Ghandi and Bishnu Prasad Rabha, according to Guiinness World Records.
