Now we’re ready for the festivities: Seasons Greetings Card workshop at the Contemporary Museum of Calligraphy

Last Sunday, December 18th, the Contemporary Museum of Calligraphy hosted the Season’s Greetings Card workshop.

The workshop programme was quite intense: after a brief introduction to the history of greeting cards from the workshop conductor, designer and calligrapher Yekaterina Orfanova, participants had to try and grasp the basics of writing with the pointed pen. Starting with lines, through separate letterforms, they finally tried to follow the outlines of a whole phrase, written with flourishes in Copperplate: Happy New Year! The outlines helped manage the task even those for whom it was their first experience with the pointed pen and ink.

And finally, the most interesting part: to copy the greeting line onto the card templates prepared by Yekaterina and to decorate the cards with colour ink, ribbons, crystal stickers, and whatnot, a variety of which were available to everyone’s liking. Yekaterina was ready to supply professional advice for those confused by such wide choice, explaining about the compatibility of colours, textures and other designers’ tips. She also shared some trivia about the work in a postcard studio, since that’s where she works.

The participants were deeply immersed in the creative process, and time flew by swiftly. Thanks to their dedication and the conductor’s help, by the end of the workshop everyone had three unique personally signed greeting cards and went home happy and satisfied.

For those willing to dedicate a couple of hours to creative activities, we look forward to seeing you at the Contemporary Museum of Calligraphy next Sunday, December 25th, 2016 for the Brush and Brush Pen Calligraphy workshop by Darina Biryulina, where we will create a poster with an inspirational phrase, and on January 4th and 5th, 2017 for the crash course on the pointed and broad pen by Artyom Lebedev.
