On August 20, 2018, the Museum delegation was warmly received in the city of Harbin, Heilongjiang province, by Mr Zhao Xueli, a calligrapher from China.
Although Mr Zhao met with the Museum representatives only for the second time and with Mr Alexey Shaburov, Director of the Museum, for the first time, it felt like a meeting of old friends.
At the meeting, Mr Zhao and his colleague Chen Mingxiu spoke about calligraphy and its role in China, shared their experience on holding calligraphy exhibitions, and touched upon about the criteria for evaluation of calligraphic works created by contemporary artists. The Museum team had an amazing time and learned a lot from their conversation.
Mr Shaburov took the opportunity to discuss the upcoming expo “The Great Chinese Calligraphy and Painting: One Belt - One Road”. The exhibition is scheduled for 2019, the year which marks the 70th anniversary of the establishment of Sino-Russian diplomatic relations.
Mr Zhao made a generous donation of two of his calligraphy works, which will take their rightful place of honor in the Museum’s collection, which means part of the talent of this outstanding master will always live with us.
We are looking forward to a new opportunity to meet with master Zhao in a warm circle of “fine art friends”.
When there are no words left, the meaning is still preserved.
