The tradition of honoring the memory of the defenders of the Fatherland in Russia is centuries-old. In the Spassky district, the renovation of the Monument to the Soldiers of the Great Patriotic War is completed. The works were initiated by the local community. How have the monument and the surrounding territory changed?
Both boys and girls were excited to hold a real gun and try on a soldier's helmet. Meanwhile, adults were looking at military equipment and dancing to the songs from the war years.
The opening of the renovated Monument to the Soldiers of the Great Patriotic War became a real festival for the villagers – almost the second Victory Day.
According to older residents, the memorial was first opened fifty years ago. Over the years, the paint peeled off, the letters became hard to read, and the land overgrown. One of the locals suggested that the community renovate the territory with their own hands. People came out with scythes and shovels, got the equipment over. And the work began - in just a few months, the memorial was transformed, adults and children began to come here - now there are always fresh flowers on the pedestal.
More than 400 people from this village in the Spassky district joined the military, less than half of them came back from war. 200 names are written on the stone slabs, names of those who were left lying on the battlefields. But at the ceremony, it was decided to add the names of those who had returned victorious. After all, the search work is still ongoing, the archives keep revealing new details.
There are 30 names not yet listed on the obelisk. We'll fix it by May 9. We'll dive into the archives, pull up the papers. We plan to put a stele with photos behind the monument. So in addition to the names, there will be photos of the Great Patriotic War soldiers so that people can see their faces.

In the future, this place will become the cultural and historical center of Orekhovo. A museum complex, which will consist of three museums, is already being built next to the renovated monument.
The first one is the World Calligraphy Museum, then the Museum of Russian Gusli and Chinese Guqin, and the third one — we are still deciding with our colleagues from the Association: it will be either retro cars or the Victory Museum, or the Balalaika Museum, we are currently trying to figure out the theme.

According to Alexey Shaburov, the exhibits are ready. The only thing to do now is to wait until the buildings are finished, it will take one and a half to two years. But in the next tourist season, the museum will open exhibitions in temporary tents.
