The Mikhailovskoye State Museum-Reserve of A.S. Pushkin held the Write Pushkin a Letter competition marking the anniversary of the great Russian poet. The competition was held in the context of the Museum Mail project endorsed by the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation.
The key objective of the museum-reserve is to restore the interest for the epistolary genre as a significant culture and historical heritage of the past. The goals of the Museum Mail project are the same as those of the Contemporary Museum of Calligraphy and the International Exhibition of Calligraphy project. We could not help accepting the proposal of the Mikhailovskoye Museum-Reserve to participate in the project programme.
The competition welcomed the participation of both common museumgoers and personnel of Moscow and local museums. The participants were excited and involved into the lessons of beautiful handwriting and intricacies of handwriting of the Pushkin era from calligrapher Yuri Koverdyayev.
There at the stand it was possible to send a congratulation letter to Pushkin to the museum-reserve. The letters were collected by the post clerks wearing the uniform of the Pushkin epoch and put into a special post box.
We hope our cooperation with the Mikhailovskoye State Museum-Reserve will not be limited to the event but will continue in the future.
Calligraphy is frozen poetry.
