On October 9, 2018, the Cultural Centre of the Republic of Korea saw the opening of a calligraphy exhibition by the Professor and calligrapher Kim Pyong-Ki from the Chonbuk National University.
Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Korea to the Russian Federation Woo Yoon-keun was a guest of honour at the event, speaking about the impact of calligraphy on human life. After the opening ceremony, Mr. Yoon Geun made several calligraphic works, writing the hieroglyphs comprising the word “man”, and presented them to the attending guests. After that, a representative of the Contemporary Museum of Calligraphy enjoyed the privilege of inviting the Ambassador to the event dedicated to the presentation of the “Great Chinese Calligraphy and Painting” exhibition, due to be held on December 14, 2018.
Then came the calligrapher Kim Pyong-Ki's performance, which deeply impressed everyone present. Unlike Chinese, which is refined and meditative, Korean calligraphy is characterized by a special internal energy concentrated in the hands of the artist. Calligraphers have to practice a lot and build physical strength in order to properly carry out the writing elements. With precise movements, Master Kim created one hieroglyph after another, and Mr. Woo Yoon-keun personally commented master’s every movement. Kim Pyong-Ki presented the finished work titled “Every Day is a Good Day. Peace and Prosperity” to the Cultural Centre.
Finally, Kim Pyong-Ki offered a tour around the whole exhibition, commenting each of the pieces’ story and peculiarities, which became a spectacular finale of the event.
Calligraphy is a remedy and mental gymnastics.
