On Sunday, November 18, Yekaterina Nazarova will give a master-class, dedicated to Japanese culture, as part of the International Exhibition of Calligraphy. The guests of the event will learn about traditional Japanese calligraphy, present-day writing styles and will be able to enjoy a calligraphy performance accompanied by Shakuhachi, Japanese bamboo flute. Moreover, Yekaterina Nazarova will demonstrate the technique of writing a hieroglyph with a brush dipped in ink.
Yekaterina was born in 1981 in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk. In 1995 she finished Children’s School of Art. In 2006 she graduated from the Institute of Economics and Oriental Studies under the Sakhalin State University, majoring in Japanese (university teacher). After her graduation, Ekaterina spent the next three years in Japan as an intern, where she got her master’s degree in Japanese calligraphy, department of calligraphy studies at the Nara University of Education. In 2012 she finished her post-graduate studies at Kyoto University, majoring in hieroglyphics. She continues her research in the field of teaching Japanese writing and, in particular, giving Japanese calligraphy lessons to foreigners. Currently, Yekaterina lives in Japan (in Kyoto) and creates calligraphy works under the guidance of honored calligrapher Shoshu Fukuda.
The master-class starts at 4 p.m. at the Contemporary Museum of Calligraphy.
