Famous calligrapher, participant of the exhibition “Great Calligraphy and Painting” Mao Guangsong taught a course at Tsinghua University

At Tsinghua University, a calligraphy course was completed by a professor at the Training Center of the Chinese Association of Calligraphers, master of calligraphic style “Quan” Mr. Mao Guangsong. A course lasting about a year was attended by 14 students from different cities and provinces of China.

Mr. Mao Guangsong took his first steps in calligraphy in 1982 at courses at the Beijing Railway Administration. He studied under Li Do, Liu Binsen, Ouyang Zhongshi, Wang Xiaju and other outstanding masters. He repeatedly participated in exhibitions and events of the All-China Association of Calligraphers. Solo exhibitions of Mao Guangsong were successfully held in Beijing, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Guangdong and other regions of China. In June 2015, the PRC Copyright Office registered a unique calligraphic style developed by the author. It received the official name "Maoquan", which stands for "Mao Guangsong's calligraphy style."

In September 2019, Mr. Mao Guangsong took part in the large-scale exhibition “Great Chinese Calligraphy and Painting”, which took place at the Sokolniki Cultural and Exhibition Center and gathered more than 400 calligrapher works from all provinces of China. Calligraphic paintings by Mao Guangsong, consisting of quotes by Xi Jinping, dedicated to the friendship of Russia and China, adorned the main stage and became a unique highlight of the exhibition. During the exhibition, the event was attended by the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of China to the Russian Federation, Mr. Zhang Hanhui.

Sokolniki Exhibition and Convention Center also has close cooperation with Tsinghua University of China: since 2006, the Sokolniki Exhibition and Convention Center has been implementing the “Be Thankful, Serve the Society” program, aimed at developing civic qualities and shaping the social and cultural activity of young people.

On January 15, 2020, the Russian-Chinese student conference “Be Thankful, Serve the Society” was held at the World Calligraphy Museum. The event was held in the framework of the joint statement of the Russian Federation and the People's Republic of China on the development of comprehensive partnership and strategic interaction entering a new era, signed by the leaders of Russia and China in June 2019.

At the conference, the best students of Tsinghua University, participants in the project “Be Thankful, Serve the Society” met with students from leading Russian universities, such as Moscow State University named after Lomonosov, Moscow State Institute of International Relations, Diplomatic Academy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, Higher School of Economics, Russian Presidential Academy of National Economy and Public Administration, Moscow State Linguistic University. Young people asked each other questions related to various aspects of society: economics, politics, ecology, spiritual values, as well as the role of youth in solving modern problems, shared their impressions of Russia and China, exchanged views on the prospects for the development of Russian-Chinese relations. According to the organizer of the conference, the president of the Sokolniki Museum and Education Complex, the director of the World Calligraphy Museum Alexei Yuryevich Shaburov, the conference was a truly outstanding event. Russian and Chinese students could not only meet and learn about each other's lives, but also exchange contacts that can begin a great friendship.

During the student’s Russian-Chinese conference “Be Thankful, Serve the Society” at the World Calligraphy Museum, the President of the Sokolniki Museum and Education Complex, the Director of the World Calligraphy Museum Alexey Shaburov received from the hands of the special adviser of the Xiyuan project (“Be Thankful, Serve the Society”) Ms. Wang Zhang, the letter of appreciation for the reception of graduates of the Xiyuan 2016 program at Tsinghua University.
