August 3rd, 2018 will see an exhibition open in the Museum of Islamic Culture, Kazan. Under the title “Calligraphy of the Orient–in the Heart of Kazan. Contemporary Artists from Pakistan and Saudi Arabia”, the exhibition will give the visitors a chance to observe various calligraphy techniques.
The upcoming exhibition will be showcasing works by four well-renowned contemporary calligraphers and husni hatt (“exquisite penmanship”) artists: Abdul Rasheed Butt and Irfan Qureshi from Pakistan, Jamal Al-Kebasi Al-Rabea and Mohammed Al-Kibasi from Saudi Arabia. The exposition will become the first for them in Russia.
Their works have raised keen interest at festivals and exhibitions in the UK, the US, Singapore, Iran, China, and more than 20 other countries.
The exhibition will feature works created using various techniques, including tazhib (an art illumination, a technique of drawing patterns formed of precious materials such as gold), calligraphy panels, posters, and book design.
The first week will witness a calligraphy battle between calligraphers from Arabia, Pakistan, and Tatarstan. The exhibition will also feature calligraphy workshops as well as meetings with calligraphy artists from Kazan.
