Exhibition of Chinese calligraphy and painting in Moscow

The Chinese Cultural Centre in Moscow held an exhibition of Chinese calligraphy and painting on June 21 named “Shining of Mountains and Rivers, Friendship for Centuries.” The event was designed to celebrate the 70th anniversary of establishing diplomatic ties between China and Russia, and involved the Ambassador of China to Russia Li Hui, and Deputy Chairman of the Federal State Duma Committee on Education and Science Lyubov Dukhanina.

The Chinese ambassador noted in his speech that opening of the exhibition as a part of the 70th anniversary of establishing diplomatic ties between China and Russia, presented a platform for Russia to understand Chinese tradition and culture. “Calligraphy is one of the most notable symbols of the Chinese culture, which reflects Chinese philosophy and aesthetics. Currently there are 17 Confucius Institutes in Russia that teach Chinese calligraphy, offering to the Russian friends an opportunity for in-depth understanding of the Celestial Empire’s culture,” said the Chinese diplomat.

“As we know, currently not only political and economic cooperation grows stronger between the two countries, but also cultural and humanitarian exchanges become a foundation for deeper and comprehensive strategic partnership,” noted Lyubov Dukhanina, Deputy Chairman of the Federal State Duma Committee on Education and Science, in her speech at the opening ceremony.

The exhibit attended by more than 200, including Chinese and Russian artists, and media representatives, featured 43 top examples of calligraphy and painting by 25 renowned Chinese artists.
