The Chinese Cultural Centre in Moscow opened an exhibition of contemporary Chinese calligraphy and painting artists on June 21. Named “Shining of Mountains and Rivers, Friendship for Centuries,” the event was designed to celebrate the 70th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic ties between the two countries, offering Chinese and Russian artists an opportunity to exchange calligraphy and painting artworks in order to promote the ancient culture and art of China, and strengthen the traditional friendship between the two nations.
The ceremony on June 21 started with a welcoming speech by the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China to the Russian Federation, Mr. Li Hui. The speeches by the Deputy of the State Duma, Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Education and Science Lyubov Dukhanina, art expert and Principal of the Union of Calligraphy and Painting “Go Mo” Mr. Feng Hai, member and the Vice President of the Russian Academy of Arts Andrey Zolotov, General Secretary of the Institute of Calligraphy and Zhuang Printing at the China National Academy of Fine Arts Mr. Zeng Xian, and Director of the Contemporary Museum of Calligraphy Alexey Shaburov, followed.
The event continued in the exhibit hall that featured over 40 artworks created by top Chinese experts of calligraphy and painting, including Zeng Xian, General Secretary of the Institute of Calligraphy and Zhuang Printing at the China National Academy of Fine Arts, Yan Tao, Vice Principal of the Institute of Calligraphy at the China Academy of Arts, Fan Yang, Vice President of the Institute of Chinese Art of Guo Hua at the China National Academy of Fine Arts, Liu Yanshui, Research Associate at the China Academy of Arts, and many other renowned artists. Landscape paintings with flowers and birds, as well as the examples of caoshu, zhuan and kaishu calligraphy, preserve traditions, yet translate conceptuality and drive forward, which are appropriate for contemporary artists.
Calligraphy artists gave a demonstration of their art at a special show, creating and donating unique and vivid artworks to the guests.
The event, attended by approximately 250, including guests of honour and media representatives, finished with a cocktail party.
