On December 14 the Contemporary Museum of Calligraphy will see Dmitry Khudyakov talking about the Evolution of Chinese Writing Through the Ages, as a part of the Public University: Thursday Talks in Moscow Museums project.
It is commonly known that the Chinese culture and its writing portion, calcified in texts, is one of the most ancient in the world. Its truly unique feature is an astonishing stability that helped preserve it until the present day, yet not preventing certain transformation. The array of diverse texts the Chinese culture has carefully preserved is incredibly massive. The text and the writing can be justifiably labelled the cornerstone of the entire Chinese (and even the Far Eastern on a broader scale) civilization. This talk will cover the factors that have determined this stability of the Chinese writing culture, the challenges it was and is facing throughout its history, marking the key milestones of it.
