Director of Contemporary Museum of Calligraphy Alexey Shaburov met with Director of National Art Museum of China Wu Weishan

On December 6, 2019, Alexey Shaburov met with Mr. Wu Weishan, Director of the National Art Museum of China, in Beijing as part of the Contemporary Museum of Calligraphy’s team business trip across China. The parties have already met recently at the Cultural Forum in Saint Petersburg. This time Shaburov gave an overview of the implemented cultural projects for Chinese calligraphy, which were held in Moscow to celebrate the 70th anniversary of establishing diplomatic ties between Russia and China, and also shared some of his plans, including preparations for the opening of a Chinese calligraphy and art museum, scheduled for February 2020. Both parties exchanged gifts: the Contemporary Museum of Calligraphy donated the catalogue of the “Great Chinese Calligraphy and Painting” exhibition and the catalogue of the “Private Museums of Russia,” translated into Chinese. Mr. Wu Weishan in his turn donated a signed catalogue of the best artworks from the collection of the Art Museum of China, and expressed his support to the ongoing projects of the Contemporary Museum of Calligraphy as well as his confidence in further productive collaboration between the two museums.

It stands to mention that the meeting decided to include the Contemporary Museum of Calligraphy to the International Union of Art Museums and Galleries, chaired by Mr. Wu Weishan. The Union includes over 20 leading global museums, such as the National Art Museum of China, the National Gallery Singapore, the National Art Gallery in Bulgaria, the Russian Academy of Arts, and many more.
