Day of handwriting celebrated in Russia

January 23 is marked by day of handwriting. This holiday was founded by the Association of Writing Accessories Manufacturers in 1977 with the aim of reminding the uniqueness of handwriting and calligraphy. Society began to really evaluate the role of calligraphy quite recently, but it still cannot fully understand the consequences of minimizing handwriting. Perhaps in the near future letters and postcards, written “by hand”, will become an expensive and most desirable acquisition.

You can see the work of great calligraphers in a unique exhibition space - the Museum of World Calligraphy, which has been operating for more than 10 years in the Sokolniki park. This is the only such museum in Russia. Among its exhibits there are world masterpieces created by recognized masters. The museum presents exquisite examples of Slavic and European writing, the work of the Jewish and Arabic schools of calligraphy, strict forms of classical Japanese calligraphy, examples of ancient Chinese writing, revealing the history of the art of calligraphy and reflecting new facets of fine art; domestic and foreign books on the art of calligraphy; rare manuscripts issued in single editions, as well as writing instruments of the past and present.
