Volgograd schoolchildren took part in the Beauty and Riches of the Russian Alphabet contest held as a part of the Russian Language Days celebration named in honour of academician Oleg Trubachev.
The annual Cyrillic calligraphy contest took place in the Olympia lyceum No. 8.
Having started with a pencil outline, students of Volgograd educational institutions spent two hours trying their hand in the art of fine writing.
Fragments of Searching for Unity book by Oleg Trubachev served as a basis for the students' work.
Neatness and lack of blots or erasures was appraised by the competent jury, which included the following experts this year: Nikolay Taranov, Director of the State Education Institute of Volgograd State Social and Pedagogical University and member of the Union of Artists of Russia; Galina Egorova, Director of Olympia adult education centre; Georgy Matevosyan, Сhairman of the Union of Artists office in Volgograd; Rudolf Paranyushkin, Deputy Chairman of Painting and Art Department in Volgograd State Social and Pedagogical University; and Lyudmila Samarina, artist from Volgograd regional children's art gallery.
Following the results, student from gymnasium No. 8 Ekaterina Peretyatko won the first prize, with Daria Dashkevich from gymnasium No. 5 taking the second and the third being shared by Anna Tsygankova from lyceum No. 8 and the 10th grader Anastasiya Felitar from gymnasium No. 11.
