On May 26, 2017 the Union of Museums of Russia held a general meeting that gathered managers and leading experts from the largest Russian museums. General Manager of the State Hermitage Museum and President of the Union of Museums of Russia, Mikhail Piotrovsky addressed the participants with an opening speech.
The Union now counts over 400 museums from 75 locations in the Russian Federation. The Union's mission is defined as integration of its members' efforts to shape, preserve, study and represent the Museum Fund in the Russian Federation, and to advocate museums' interests to authorities and public institutions.
One of the key items on the agenda was co-opting of new members to the Union.
The Contemporary Museum of Calligraphy has been approved as a member of the Union of Museums of Russia through a unanimous decision of the Union's general meeting.
